My friend Redd was here last week, which means I ate way too much food. Delicious food, yes, but still. Holy crap.
Redd is better at the food photography than I am, and so we had fun with food styling, looking for good angles and good light in my apartment (she took the picture to the left).
So with that in mind, I am sharing a couple articles on food styling and then one article on the coolest food-related dating scheme I’ve ever heard. Enjoy!

- A study is being applied to the idea of food photography, suggesting that Instagramming your food before eating it might make it taste better. While the scientists didn’t study Instagram specifically, they draw similarities between the process of taking pictures of our food and the idea of performing a ritual before eating – citing that rituals increase enjoyment and savoring. As someone who Instagrams frequently, and often apologetically, this just validated me beyond reason.
- And speaking of Instagram, you should follow Waffle House’s Instagram feed. For serious.
- There are many tests that people use to size up potential mates when they first start dating. I have often said that when I went on my first date with Amanda, the moment I knew we might have something special was when she ordered a sloppy Joe. I mean, it’s brave, it’s gutsy, and I was impressed. So I was super happy with this article about “cakebarring,” wherein the Audrey Shulman has been taking cake to bars in the interest of finding a guy to date. Her reasons? You can tell a lot about a person based on how they react when offered (or not offered) cake. Seems like good sense to me!
